Dr Tharouat Tantros

Tharouat dental clinic – Argos – Kalamata
‘82 Degree in Psychology, University of Cairo.
‘92 Degree in Dentistry (DDS) Kapodistrian University of Athens
2000 PHD in Oral Pathology and Oral Surgery Kapodistrian University of Athens

Once I finished psychology in Cairo, I came to Greece to pursue more education. I went through the exams for the Greek university while studying the Greek language at the same time. I finished my degree and became a dentist in the 92’.

As soon as I got the degree in Dentistry I opened my first clinic in Athens performing basic surgery. I realised that I wanted to learn more about surgery therefore I was working with other important surgeons. Getting in love with it I decided to get a PHD.

I always had a keen eye for the evolution of dentistry and new technologies, I wanted to stay up to date getting many certificates, learning how to do better implants, stem cells and bone graff. I traveled around the world (Tel Aviv, Mexico, Italy, NY – France) to expand my knowledge and I learned that these are the most important things in the dentistry world.

I loved and still love my job so much, I influenced my daughter and she became a great dentist, we are working together since 2002 when she was about 18 years old.

Few years back I decided to leave Athens and move to south Greece, this gave me the opportunity of being the only oral pathologist/surgeon in the area.

I opened the second clinic in Argos on 2003, that went very good. I built a broad and established patient list that lead in opening another clinic in Kalamata, always collaborating with my daughter. These 2 clinics are still running successfully.

How many dental implant procedures have you done?

More than 8000 Implants since the year 2000. Not more than 3% have failed and for these unlikely events we check the reasons why the implant failed and placed it again, removing the factors that caused it to fail in the first place.

Why should someone choose you over the competition?

I chose my profession out of love , I’m strongly motivated and inspired in making healthy beautiful smiles.

I want to make the people smile more.

The mouth is the only part of the body that has 3 functions, first is the speech, the second is the eating, and the third is the sexual/love. It’s the only part of the body that can express the true love through a kiss.

I can comprehend how to make and transform a mouth in order to do the all the 3 functions in the best way possible. I have a very fine taste, and I choose the best for my patients.

Alongside with that I’m a Psychologist therefore I deeply understand my patients needs and relate to them.
I have methods to take away the fear from the patient and make dentistry a pleasant experience.

Where do most of your patients come from?

Mouth to mouth, happy patients always recommend a good dentist to the person they care about.

What procedures do you typically recommend and perform?

What I prefer is to take a really damaged mouth and transform it in a perfect one. Every person is different so I tailor the treatment on every person.

What type of implants does your clinic use?

I mostly work with Israeli implants because they are more reliable and they are produced in Universities by dentists and not in corporates by businessmen.

Please give me a summary of the steps in the process of getting an implant at your clinic.

The first thing is to get in contact through a skype call or email in order to meet the patient and understand their needs.
Then the patient will send the OPG Xray via email.

Next step is the treatment planning. We will offer to the patient options, discuss with them and decide together on the treatment plan that is better for them. This can be a quick procedure directly after the receiving the Xray.

As part of the planning we will discuss the cost, way of payment , timeframe in order to meet the patient needs.

When the patient is happy with the treatment plan we will agree when the surgery is going to happen, and make sure that the patient leaves with temporary teeth the same day after placing the implants. Then after a period between 1 or 3 months we will move forward to the prosthetic job (placing the teeth over the implants). In rare cases of sinus lift procedures 6 months are needed for the entire treatment

Can you please provide a quick description of the surgical procedure at your clinic?

Preferably the patient will arrive one day prior the surgery in order to meet the dentist face to face ,we believe that building a dentist-patient relationship is very important.

On the day of the surgery the patient will arrive in the morning, wear sterile gown , shoes and hat. After checking the blood pressure we’ll do local anaesthesia. The patient will be awake but feel no pain. If the patient consents photographs are taken before the procedure.

At this point we will extract any non viable teeth as prior agreed and place the implants on the same day using piezosurgery and minor invasive techniques. Stitches are placed so that the patient can continue his day without any bleeding. On the same day the temporary teeth are placed, antibiotics are administered and also pain control advice is given.

We will give to the patient post op instructions and advice them to return the following day for a checkup. After that, the patient can go and continue his day near the beach. Later on the same day we will call the patient to reassure them and make sure they are feeling ok.

After one week we will remove the stitches.

How much do your procedures cost?

A single implant starts from 800Euro
Gum disease procedures starts from 120Euro
Oral Pathology procedures starts from 500Euro
Teeth whitening starting from 350Euro
Veneers starting starting from 450Euro
Bridge-Crowns starting from 250Euro
Sinus lift / Bone graft / Collagen graft procedures starting from 350Euro
Plastic gum surgery starting from 350Euro
Dentures starting from 500Euro
Root canal starting from 250Euro
Cosmetic Dentistry should be discussed with the patient
Oral Surgery procedures (e.g. Teeth extraction, Jaw disorders and Gum infection) should be discussed with the patient

What payment methods do you accept? Do you offer financing?

The type of payment will be agreed with the patient during the treatment planning session. We accept cash, credit cards, Cheque and payment plans.

How many appointments are required to get one or two implants?

This will be done in 2 sessions over a period between 2 and 4 months, for the first session the patient needs to be available for 1 week, for the second session the patient needs be available for 2 weeks. Similar period will be for more implants.

In case of bone graff the process might extend from 3 to 6 months.

How long is the healing time like for patients who get dental implants?

Usually 8 days, Some patients require longer period due to special medical conditions like anemia and diabetes.

The placing of temporary teeth is immediate ,whether in acrylic or valplast soft denture. For the first 3 days after placing the implant there might be minor pain and/of slight swelling. In the majority of the cases there is no post op pain.

In order to put proper load with permanent teeth we have to wait 2 to 4 months for the implant to osseointegrate with the bone

What do you advise your patients to do if they have a problem with their implant?

Each implant has 2 years of guarantee. The patient should come in our clinic so we can investigate why the issue happened, understand whether it was due to health factor, medical factor or patient negligence as bad oral hygiene. After that we treat it accordingly.

If the implant is steady for 2 years and the teeth come out after it’s likely due to bad hygiene or patient skipping 6 month check.
