I had a failed root canal and the infection (two years undetected) was so bad it ate through the bone and breached the low sinus. I opted for an APICO to clean out the infection and have had nothing but problems. They started me on amoxicillin and when that wore off, the infection returned in about a day along with pressure, swelling and drainage into my throat. They then put me on amoxicillin/clavulanate and after one round, the infection and symptoms returned again. I am on my second round of that now along with a steroid, and have a few days left. It seems the antibiotics just keep it at bay and don’t stop it. They are talking about possibly pulling my tooth and I’m very worried about it. Can someone offer me some guidance on how I can heal this infection without having to pull the tooth? Do I need a stronger antibiotic? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This has been a terrible experience.
